CUBE Displays on the UCSB campus

The Caltech-USGS Broadcast of Earthquakes (CUBE) system is designed as a means of getting earthquake information out to public agencies. The system uses a pager system to transmit the information from Caltech to the PC based systems.

The purpose of the systems is to provide UCSB students access to current information about Southern California Seismicity. Three CUBE systems were installed on the UCSB campus by the Institute for Crustal Studies (ICS) with funding provided by UCSB. Installation and support for the systems was provided by ICS and PBIC personnel. The three UCSB CUBE Displays are located at:

The CUBE display at ICS was operational by October 1995 in time for the beginning of the fall quarter.

The CUBE display in the Davidson Library was decommissioned in 2004 when the Library reallocated the space used for the CUBE display for additional netstations.
